This year our family is opening our hearts and home to our foreign exchange student, Frederikke from Denmark. Today marks two weeks that she has been with us and already we are being stretched to learn new things and grow in our knowledge about another culture. We are learning to speak Danish words and trying our best to honor her by pronouncing her name correctly. Honestly, this experience is truly a gift from God. Frederikke is a breath of fresh air and a total blessing to our family!
Can you imagine what it would be like to leave everything familiar to come live with a family that you have never met before for an entire year? Everything is new to her; a new home, a new city, a new school, new friends, a new family, and even a new culture? I could go on and on with all of the new things that she is experiencing for the first time.
I have been so impressed with Frederikke’s willingness to try new things and be open to a different way of life. I am praying that this year will change us all for the better, that we will always stay in touch, and that we will be a blessing to one another now and for many years to come!
So how about you, is your heart and home open to new experiences? Are you open to learning about people that come from another culture or even a different background? God wants us to love people, to open our hearts and our homes.
Already, I can say that I am so glad that we said “Yes” to this opportunity to get outside of ourselves, so that we would have the chance to be forever changed by another culture. I am just wondering if all of us would open our hearts and home, how that could change all of our lives for the better?
I am not sure what that looks like for your family, but this year, for us, it has meant opening our hearts and our home to a very special young lady from Denmark! I can’t wait to see how God will use this experience to forever change our lives for the better! I encourage you to ask God how he wants you to open your heart and your home to someone that will transform your life!
Bless you dear Friends!
Heidi
