Prayer is often under utilized in our tool bag of options. Why is it that our automatic response is to try to figure it out on our own or to ask a friend instead of going to God first? I’m asking myself this very question on a couple of matters in my life right now. I am just as guilty about doing this as the next person, but I am realizing that it’s time to make prayer my “go to” option when I am in need of answers, encouragement, direction, or healing.
Recently, I have been praying about my greatest fears and biggest dreams. The most important lesson that I am learning is to let God be the one to work things out. I know that personally, I want to be the answer or the solution when life is throwing me a curve ball. There are the times when we pray and God doesn’t seem to be providing resolution in a matter that is near and dear to our hearts. At this very moment, we have to stop and resist the temptation to believe that God doesn’t care, so that we can actually embrace the truth in the matter; He works all things together for good. When our situation looks bleak, we need to trust that He is in control of everything in our life.
All God wants us to do is talk to Him about the things that are weighing heavy on our hearts. His desire is that we would run into His arms and talk to Him about what is on our mind. It’s not even that He doesn’t already know what is going on, He just wants us to depend on Him. The next time you have something on your mind, take it to God and try this simple method for prayer.
