I love my IF Table Soul Sisters! God has knit our lives together! We are a group of women who came together four months ago to begin our journey together in sharing our lives, our hearts, our hopes, and our dreams! Every month we gather to share conversations about God and life! We encourage one another, listen, and pray together. There is something magical that happens every time we meet together, maybe it’s because we invite our God to sit at the table with us. He is in our midst, guiding our conversations, speaking life into our hearts and breathing life into our weary souls.
This month we gathered at Julie’s home for soup, salad, bread, and yummy snicker doodle and s’mores cupcakes. The focus of our conversations centered on prayer.
Our questions this month were…
- Who’s teaching you to pray? Who’s been an example to you of the kind of prayer life you want to have?
- Tell one story about an answered prayer.
- What makes it difficult for you to pray?
- What’s one thing you’re praying for in this season in your own life?
Our role models in prayer were our parents and women that we looked up to in life. Some of us didn’t have a role model. In fact, most of us admitted that prayer is a bit out of our comfort zones. At the same time, we all acknowledged that we wanted to get better at praying! We want to be able to talk to God without worrying about whether we are saying things right and we all encourage one another to get more comfortable with this daily discipline.
Our stories about answered prayers were incredible! Our emotions were mixed, we cried and then we sat in amazement, as each person shared their moments when God showed up in big and mighty ways! We shared stories of coming to Christ, adopting, leading a family member to the Lord, healing in relationships, and so on. There’s nothing better than hearing how God came into a situation and changed it for the good in a way that the person on the receiving end would totally know that it was God. Bottom line, when we pray we need to pray BIG and deeply believe that God will hear our prayers and answer them in His time and His way!
Our difficulty with prayer stemmed from busy-ness, lack of structure, and insecurity with how to pray. Yet, we all agreed that we were committed to getting better with prayer. It is something that we want to improve and implement on and everyday basis, through out the day.
Our prayers in this season of life were for clarity, growth, obedience, courage, patience, and trust in God. It was so nice to sense God speaking through some of the gals in an effort to encourage one another. We closed our time in prayer and calm washed over the table, a peace that only comes from God. I continue to stand back in awe of the way that God is working in each of our lives and jointly as we come together each month to go deeper with Him and with one another. I pray that you will consider starting something like this in your community of friends. It has made such a BIG Difference in my life already!
