Living a low stress life is extremely important to your overall health. Our society today seems to emphasize productivity and accomplishment by giving accolades to people who are getting the most out of the 24 hours in their day. There isn’t enough emphasis on the importance of sleep, rest, enjoying the outdoors, meditation, and other strategies to keep your level of stress at bay.
Last summer, I had the opportunity to live in Denmark for a couple of weeks for a visit with our foreign exchange student. Technically, I was there on vacation, so I haven’t experienced life working and raising a family abroad. In my short time there, I noticed the calmer pace and peaceful lifestyle. When I compared this experience to our American ways, I quickly came to the conclusion that we need to take a serious look at modifying and embracing a more simple life.
